Corruption W.M.B.C.
With the never ending twists and turns over the state of Wigan...should there be an enquiry into the state of Wigan as is ? Why did we lose the old market ? Who authorised the galleries ? Who authorised the Grand Arcade ? Has the Chinese money to re-develop gone to the wind ? What are we left with apart from a building site ? Who's getting the back handers in the council/Labour control. Answers on a post card to...."Shafted PLC"...Thankyou.

I have seen it with my own eyes BB, When i sub contracted to the direct works Depot and did jobs for the highly paid executives and was asked to invoice to other projects for time and materials in exchange for further contracts to myself, It annoyed me that these highly paid executives were getting work for free but, I was flattered that, they choose me because, My standards must have met their approval. So I patted myself on the back and kept my gob shut,,,,,

If thats the case you might get the market square back. The only difference being it will be about five times bigger than the old one. Every cloud etc

At present they are regenerating Worsley Mesnes, the place is a building site, and they have just started to demolish the old shopping precinct, and the council cannot tell you enough about it, information about the project is freely available on the council website and the developers website LINK
But as regards The Galleries redevelopment, the silence from the council about the project is deafening, they don't want to discuss the subject.

I was talking to a trader just before Christmas and I asked her was she moving into the new market when it was ready or closing up. She said not when, 'if ' it was ready. She said it was at least 3 years away from that and the rebuild had a 140 million shortfall as there was no money in the pot to continue. So, the money is there to finish the demolition, but not to put the rebuild in place. As Cheshire said, at least the car parking issue should be solved !!

I wonder how many Wigan people actually want this redevelopment to be a total failure and fall flat on its face so they can say "I told you it wouldn't work"
After all, the people of Wigan were barely consulted about it and lets be honest a new hotel, cinema, a bowling alley, crazy golf? etc are hardly the necessities that the town centre needed.

Exactly, would you open an hotel on the old Market Square, when there is no nearby parking or no proper nearby parking.
Cinema wise,
Bowling Alley, there already is one on Wallgate, a few hundred yards away.
No Parking >>>> No Cinema, No Hotel.
They won't even agree to a drop off/pick up zone outside of the new Market Hall by opening up Market Street to traffic from Hallgate to New Market Street.

I could have lived with that, if they had kept the top part of The Galleries the central atrium where the clock was and put new Market Stalls in there on both levels, done a decent job of it and renamed it The Market and whilst they decided how to develop the rest of the demolished site, turn it into a car park, as it was when it was the Market Square.
That would have left what was left of the old Galleries car park on the roof to be developed into other uses.
Does all that sound stupid ?

It doesn't sound stupid at all, Tommy.
In fact, I think it is a very feasable idea
Too late now, though

I thought that Tonker was going to form a political party, the Pedantic Party so we could vote for him
Replied: 10th Jan 2024 at 21:44
You should look at voting not as a marries but more like a bus ride that you can get off when the journey ends!! and you can always take another bus...

TTS, yes Tonker is certainly a charismatic person who is well versed in all that matters and, that is endorsed from beings above us who beemed him up to sap his knowledge but, He is a modern day Arthur Daley , A dodgy second hand car dealer with fingers in so many pies he leaves trails of crumbs from Wigan to Barcelona, He would make a great PM but, All of Yickland would get the benefits,,,,
